ACA SUMMER 2007 SUMMARY
As the Accessible Cities Alliance celebrates its second year anniversary, we are pleased to offer the following updates.
Got Access?
Promotional Campaign Kick-Off set for July 22
In an effort to get the attention and the action of businesses who have yet to remove barriers to access, the ACA has created a new promotional campaign: Got Access? Thanks to the Joliet Herald News for their involvement and support, to photographer Ron Molk, and of course to our civic leaders for their participation and ongoing support.

"Accessibility Awareness Week" July 22-28
Created by the ACA during its public kick-off in July, 2005,
"Accessibility Awareness Week" is a County-wide observation
which encourages a focus on access issues by businesses,
property owners, employers and consumers with disabilities.
Thanks to the following municipalities which have worked with
the Accessible Cities Alliance to proclaim the week of July 22-28 "Accessibility Awareness Week" in their area: Will County Executive and Board;
Joliet Township; Cities of Joliet, Lockport; Villages of Romeoville, Plainfield,
Channahon, Mokena. Bolingbrook will also be acknowledging the week
and recognizing a partnering disability group, the Association of Persons with
Disabilities. The ACA strongly encourages local towns to get informed and get involved!

Case Studies in Compliance
Hats off to Modern Builders Industrial Concrete for working with the ACA
to promote accessibility features which they have installed for their clients in the following
Joliet locations:
Joliet Township Offices
Juvenile Detention Center
Louie's Restaurant at 1001 West Jefferson Street
Coldwell Banker offices at 210 Hammes Street
Teamsters Offices at 1000 NE Frontage Road
Applause to Rodgers Construction for sharing their case study in compliance regarding work on the exterior entrance ramp to the downtown Joliet Junior College location. Great example of renovations on an older building which were put in place to create a more accessible entrance and parking. Click here to see the photographs.
This just in...
The ACA has recently learned that John Bays has undertaken a series of accessibility improvements within buildings he owns throughout Joliet. We are thrilled to hear news of increased access, of barriers being removed and of local investors showing that they know good access is good business. Thanks to Kevin Gahr, City of Joliet Building/ADA Inspector, for his hard work and diligence in promoting accessibility and compliance.
